I’ve been redoing the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner’s classified ad Web site. Like all newspapers, the News-Miner has been hurt by Craig’s List.  The paper is hoping with the new classifieds site to at least lure some of those people back.

I’m officially a gun for hire (i.e. a freelance contractor).

I was hired to create the Web site for a local candidate for the State Senate.  I know his campaign manager very well from my days at UAF, and he bumped into me shortly after I had left the News-Miner and asked me if I would be willing to help him out.

My last major project as an employee of the News-Miner launched today.  It’s a Web site to go along with a huge seven-part series the paper is running this week.  Click on the image below to check it out.

I don’t write for the News-Miner anymore (unless you count thousands and thousands of lines of computer code as writing), so to be honest, I wasn’t really thinking about the annual Alaska Press Club Awards — a competition naming the best journalists in the state.

The awards were announced a few weeks ago in Anchorage, and I was pleasantly surprised that I had won in two categories.

The 25th Anniversary of the Yukon Quest starts this morning.  The mushers will be leaving Fairbanks for a 1,000-mile overland journey to Whitehorse, Yukon Territory.

While the mushers have been getting geared up for the grueling race, I’ve been working massive overtime to get the News-Miner’s Yukon Quest Web site up and running.  It’s sort of the first big test of some of the fun stuff our Web site can do.
