April 2008

I don’t write for the News-Miner anymore (unless you count thousands and thousands of lines of computer code as writing), so to be honest, I wasn’t really thinking about the annual Alaska Press Club Awards — a competition naming the best journalists in the state.

The awards were announced a few weeks ago in Anchorage, and I was pleasantly surprised that I had won in two categories.

Arthur had his first visit to the doctor on Saturday.

He is definitely his mother’s son…he didn’t like the doctor’s office one bit.  Luckily for him the doctor said he looked as healthy as healthy could be…so hopefully that will mean he won’t have to go to the doctor any more than normal.

Here’s some more photos of the experience.

So in a raging fit of Hyper-Paternal-Elation Syndrome (HPES for short…don’t worry, my doctor gave me a cream that should hopefully clear it right up), I created a new photo gallery here on the blog to show off all of the latest photos of Arthur.

As I get new photos I’ll be posting them in this new gallery with the newest photos at the top.

Check it out HERE, and enjoy!

First I guess some housekeeping…I can’t really put these posts under the “Nine Months and Counting” category  so I’m going to have to create a new category for baby posts.  I’m not quite sure what to call it yet (Maybe “18 years and counting”…)  Anyway…I guess I’ll call it “A Fairbanks Father” for now but if anyone has any suggestions for anything more fitting and/or funny let me know.

Now to the meat of what I was going to write about.

Arthur Everett Duffy was born at 3:50 a.m., April 23, 2008.  He weighed 7 pounds 14 ounces and was a little more than 20 inches long.

You can see some photos from the birth here.

Bobbi has a post on her myspace blog titled “Due dates are for suckers.”

I’ve got to say, I completely agree with the title of that blog entry, but I’m not sure I agree with her optimistic appraisal of the situation.
